One Piece Fan Letter 2024 directed by Megumi Ishitani Reviews, film + cast
Prequels, spin-offs, or standalone films are allowed. The list does not include films that had some national releases in 2024 but U.S. releases delayed for 2025 (i.e. I’m Still Here). Includes documentaries and festival films of 2024 that have their first national release in 2025 (i.e. The Life of Chuck, Friendship). A guy made a love letter to his dog, and it is competently done and hits emotional strings, which is what we want out of all of our movies. Stylish, atmospheric, and patient rendition of a familiar set-up – a man alone in a haunted house with his dog – but told through the eyes of the dog.

Urusevsky and Kalatozov are the only reason this works so well, because at its core this is a simple survival story, nature always wins in the end, and what we leave behind will always burn… The human versus nature story gets powered by its interesting characters, deep profound dialogues and truly exceptional cinematography. The way in which the story of David is mirrored, distorted, kept alive through the footage of Shoval’s earlier film Youth is unbelievable, both a blessing and a curse. Now, Shoval sends him a cinematic letter. Ten years ago, David Cunio starred in Tom Shoval’s debut feature film Youth, which revolved around a kidnapping. The day Megumi Ishitani directs a One Piece movie, I will wholeheartedly place it as my letterbox top 1 without any hesitation.

Mikhail Kalatozov masters lighting, shadows, cinematic techniques and camera angles in this film with an absolutely breathtaking cinematography by Sergei Urusevsky. It’s a great showcase of how technical prowess and skills in filmmaking can create the perfect atmosphere for a movie. Letter Never Sent is an underrated film by Mikhail Kalatozov with a basic story about four scientists who find diamonds in Siberia and go through a challenging condition. The wide lens, sometimes wide in scope, sometimes introspective and minimalist, captures the viewer into a truly convincing pioneer adventure that slowly escalates tension and becomes a tale of survival.

I still need to see Mikhail Kalatozov’s acclaimed film, The Cranes Are Flying, but the epic nature of this one was mighty impressive. The film definitely has one of the greatest cinematography of all time. And it’s no surprise, considering the people who made this film. Unfortunately, time has caught up with the filmmakers, and they unsurprisingly burrow their heads further down their collars with ‘meta-cinematic’ nostalgia alongside the deliberate omission of the Palestinian struggle. Apparently, history starts on October 7, 2023—as the film so bluntly reminds us from the first opening minutes—and everything else before the production of A Letter to David functions as some undisturbed Edenic paradise that exists independent of time and causality. There is a bit of a mystery here but it is pretty obvious and even the films tagline gives it away.
I can MORE than assure you that it’s worth it. Ishitani is one of, if not the best animation director working today and it cannot be overstated how valuable her filmography is. They don’t even need to tie it in to a specific event, the one piece world is massive and they can do so much in any location of the world. Unbelievably good, a euphoric love letter to the series. Cuz sometimes that shit was downright disrespectful (lookin @ you dressrosa) I honestly don’t know how many years I have left.

Months into treatment, I wonder if it’s doing me any good. The protagonist, a young girl who has a strong admiration for Nami, sets off on a small adventure. And it’s a pretty stylish one at that. Bette davis shooting a man to death while showing no emotion whatsoever.

Hands down one of the most beautifully and intensely shot films I’ve ever seen with its gliding wide-angled tracking shots and intimate close-ups. Its a tale of man versus nature with a good amount of romance and an intense, tragic and existential survival adventure set in the unforgiving Siberian wilderness.
If you’re a Bette Davis fan it’s still worth watching! Unlike Now Voyager, Dark Victory, or her other vehicles from this time, this movie centers a surprising amount around the men around her. stock issuance journal entry She has very little agency, and she’s the most fun when she’s steering the film. It has a few fun moments, and it’s interesting to see things unfold but it doesn’t have the pacing or the Bette Davis performance I was hoping for. With one of the best opening scenes I’d seen in old Hollywood, Bette Davis shoots a man in cold blood, this film starts off on a high, and sort of drags on from there.

A loyal dog moves to a rural family home with his owner Todd, only to discover supernatural forces lurking in the shadows. I thought it can’t get any better than all how are the balance sheet and income statement connected the arthouse pictures I have watched recently, but holy moly, I was wrong. The cinematography is absolutely-fucking breathtaking, surprise surprise its a Kalatozov+Urusevsky collaboration, which is of course THE highlight of the film. I can’t even imagine how incredible this film must have looked on the big screen in 1960.
